Overview

The United States Attorney's Offices (USAOs) serve as the principal litigators for the federal government in each of the 94 federal judicial districts. Each USAO is headed by a United States Attorney appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. Assistant United States Attorneys prosecute federal criminal cases and represent the government in civil litigation.
